About the River Market

The  opening of The River Market in Point Pleasant Beach, in the heart of  downtown, brings the broad culinary experience of the husband-and-wife  team of owner/chefs John and Lee Malcolm.  They have previously owned  and operated The River Market in Downtown Toms River which was named one  of seven top New Jersey Shore BYOB restaurants by THE ASBURY PARK PRESS  IN April 2015.

The River Market is open for dinner Tuesday -  Sunday from 5 pm.  We encourage you to make reservations for dinner. We  are BYOB and encourage you to pair wines with our food.  We are a small  place so please call a ahead especially on weekends!

The  Malcolms met as students at the Culinary Institute of America, the  internationally famous chefs school in Hyde Park, N.Y., and ran  fine-dining kitchens in San Francisco and San Diego before returning to  their roots in New Jersey ten years ago.

The café, located at 522  Bay Avenue just half a block south off Arnold Avenue, will offer daily  specials, plenty of seafood and changing seasonal menus to take  advantage of the freshest produce and food supplies available. John Malcolm’s extensive training as chef at top  quality restaurants in California and New Jersey prepared him for his  new role as owner and executive chef at River Market.

Chef  Malcolm, who served as executive chef of the award winning Azul La Jolla  on San Diego’s scenic coastline from 1999-2004, received much regional  acclaim for his California coastal cuisine. He was nominated for Chef of  the Year by the Southern California Food Writers Association and  received excellent reviews from national and California media.
